What happened

PACCAR is recalling certain 2017-2018 Kenworth T680 and T880 trucks, and Peterbilt 567 and 579 trucks equipped with automated Eaton UltraShift Plus or Eaton Advantage transmissions with right hand stalk shifters. The instrument cluster display that shows which gear the driver has selected may display incorrectly, showing "N" (neutral) when the shifter is actually set to "D" (drive) or "R" (reverse), causing the truck to not move as expected. This increases the risk of a crash and violates federal safety standards.

PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will install a transmission software update at no cost to owners. The recall began on March 9, 2018. Affected consumers should contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5000 or Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220, referencing recall number 18KWA (for Kenworth) or 118-A (for Peterbilt).
