2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA; 2014 HYUNDAI ELANTRA
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
Hyundai is recalling certain 2013-2014 Elantra sedans, coupes, and GT vehicles because the brake pedal stopper pad can deteriorate, causing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released. This defect can cause the brake lights to stay illuminated continuously, preventing following drivers from accurately seeing when the vehicle is slowing or stopping. The same problem can also allow the transmission to be shifted out of PARK without pressing the brake pedal, or activate the engine management brake pedal override feature. Either condition increases crash risk.
Hyundai dealers will replace the brake pedal stopper pad at no charge. Owners should contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151 to arrange service. The recall number is 170, and replacements were expected to begin February 8, 2018. This recall expands an earlier recall numbered 16V574.
