What happened

Porsche Cars North America is recalling certain 2016 and 2017 model year vehicles, including the 911 GT3 RS, 911 R, various 911 Carrera models, 911 Targa models, 911 Turbo S models, and 718 Boxster and Cayman models. The passenger frontal air bag inflator initiator in these vehicles may fail to ignite during a crash, which means the passenger frontal air bag will not deploy.

To remedy this issue, Porsche will notify owners and dealers will replace the affected air bags at no charge. The recall began on May 15, 2017. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243 and reference recall number AH03.

Hazard

If the air bag inflator initiator fails to ignite, the passenger frontal air bag will not deploy, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
