What happened

Strick Trailers is recalling certain 2015 and 2017 tandem axle 53-foot van trailers equipped with specific Bendix SR5 spring brake valves that may have been improperly machined. If the spring brakes are delayed when applying the parking brake, the trailer could roll away after being disconnected from the tractor, creating a risk of crashes or injuries.

Strick will contact owners and provide a free repair kit with instructions to fix affected SR-5 trailer relay valves. The recall began August 22, 2016. Affected owners should contact Strick Trailers Customer Service Department at 1-260-692-1300.

Hazard

If there is a delay of the spring brake application, the trailer may roll away after it has decoupled from the tractor, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Strick Trailers, LLC (Strick) is recalling certain model year 2015 tandem axle 53 foot van trailers manufactured August 18, 2014, to August 28, 2014, and 2017 tandem axle 53 foot van trailers manufactured November 23, 2015, to December 17, 2015, equipped with certain Bendix SR5 spring brake valves. These valves may have been improperly machined, which may cause a delay of application of the spring brakes while parking.
