Volkswagen is recalling certain 2012-2013 Audi A6 and A7 vehicles equipped with heated and cooled seats due to a defect in the Passenger Occupant Detection System (PODS). This system controls whether the front passenger air bags deploy in a crash, and the malfunction may prevent proper air bag deployment, increasing the risk of passenger injury during an accident.
To remedy this issue, Audi dealers will install a PODS system repair kit at no charge to owners. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 to arrange the free repair. The recall began on February 5, 2016, and Volkswagen's reference number for this recall is 74D1.
