Forest River is recalling certain Elkhart ECII transit buses from model years 2006-2014 that are equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lift models. The wheelchair lifts have folding link arms with pivot holes that may be too large, which can allow bearings to shift out of their proper position. If the bearings become displaced, the stowed platform may move excessively and fail, potentially causing the wheelchair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened.
To address this safety issue, Forest River will notify vehicle owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and inspect the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced at no cost to the owner. Affected owners should contact Forest River customer service at 574-264-5179 ext. 102 or Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884 to arrange an inspection. The recall began on December 16, 2015, and the Forest River recall number is 51-11102015-0108. Owners who received the remedy for a similar 2014 recall should note that their vehicles are still affected by this recall.
