What happened

Toyota is recalling certain 2013-2015 Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Lexus ES350, and ES300h vehicles equipped with an optional Pre-Collision System (PCS). The PCS may unexpectedly activate and apply the brakes when the radar detects a steel joint or plate in the roadway, mistaking it for an object. This unexpected braking increases the risk of a crash.

Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace certain PCS components at no charge. The recall began on July 28, 2016. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Toyota at 1-888-270-9371 for more information. Toyota's campaign numbers for this recall are F1V and F2E.
