Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain 2011-2014 Cascadia, Business Class M2, Coronado, and Columbia Glider trucks manufactured between April 5, 2010, and June 15, 2013, that are equipped with Fontaine Ultra LT Fifth Wheel connectors. Due to cumulative damage to the fifth wheel and its locking mechanism, the locking mechanism may fail to operate properly, which could cause the trailer to unexpectedly detach from the tractor and increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy is a free replacement of the fifth wheel with an Ultra NT model fifth wheel at authorized DTNA service facilities. DTNA began notifying owners on November 20, 2015. Owners of affected vehicles should contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000 and reference recall number FL-692 to arrange the replacement.
