What happened

Subaru is recalling certain 2015 and 2016 model year vehicles equipped with the Eyesight Driver Assist System, including the Legacy, Outback, Impreza, XV Crosstrek, and WRX. The vehicles were manufactured between September 2014 and April 2015. A faulty brake light switch can prevent the automatic pre-collision braking system from working properly, which means the vehicle may not brake automatically when approaching an obstacle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Subaru will notify owners and reprogram the driver assist system at no charge through authorized dealers. The recall began on July 20, 2015. Affected consumers should contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783 and reference recall number WQS-54 to arrange service.

Hazard

If the automatic pre-collision braking system does not function as intended, the vehicle will not react to an obstacle in its path, increasing the risk of a crash.
