Subaru is recalling certain 2003-2004 Legacy and Outback vehicles, and 2003-2005 Baja vehicles that were sold or registered in high-humidity areas including Puerto Rico, Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Florida, southern Georgia, and coastal regions of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. The passenger side frontal air bag inflator in these vehicles may rupture during deployment due to excessive internal pressure, potentially sending metal fragments toward occupants and causing serious injury or death.
Subaru will notify owners of affected vehicles. The remedy is for dealers to replace the passenger air bag inflator at no charge. The recall began January 15, 2015. Owners of recalled vehicles should contact Subaru at 1-800-782-783 and reference recall number WQP-51. Note that 2005 model year Legacy and Outback vehicles will be repaired under a different recall number (15V-323).
