Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner HDX school buses from model years 2008-2015 that were manufactured between May 25, 2008, and December 18, 2014, and equipped with Cummins Westport ISL G engines. The issue involves excessive engine crankcase pressures that may cause a 90-degree elbow on the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, which could allow engine oil to contact hot surfaces and create a fire risk.
Cummins will notify owners on behalf of DTNA, and dealers will secure the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogram the electronic control module with new software to adjust engine output under misfire conditions and limit crankcase pressures. All repairs will be performed at no cost to owners. According to the record, owners should contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000 or Cummins customer service at 1-800-343-7357, and can reference DTNA recall number FL-681.
