What happened

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain Thomas Built Buses and Minotour DRW transit buses from model years 2006–2015 that are equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lift models. The wheelchair lifts have folding link arms with pivot holes that may be oversized, which can allow bearings to shift out of position. If the bearings move, the stowed platform can develop excessive movement and fail, potentially causing the wheelchair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when doors are opened. This poses an injury risk to lift operators.

Dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and check the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced at no cost to owners. The recall began on November 2, 2015. Owners should contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-745-8000, and can reference recall number FL-686.

Hazard

If the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement resulting in failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheel chair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.

What should I do?

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or for displaced bearings. The platform will be inspected for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on November 2, 2015. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-686.
