New Flyer Industries Canada ULC is recalling certain model year 2009–2013 transit buses, including C35LF, L40LFR, C35LFR, C40LF, C40LFR, XN35, XN40, and XN60 models equipped with Cummins Westport Model ISL G engines. In these vehicles, condensation in the intake manifold can freeze during cold weather and disrupt the intake manifold pressure sensor, causing it to operate improperly.
When the sensor malfunctions, it may cause elevated exhaust temperatures or flames to discharge from the exhaust pipe, creating a risk of vehicle fire or burn injuries to people near the exhaust. New Flyer will contact owners, and authorized Cummins Inc. and Cummins Wesport Inc. facilities will upload a new engine calibration module (ECM) free of charge. Affected owners should contact New Flyer at 1-204-934-4876 or Cummins Inc. at 1-800-343-7357, referencing New Flyer recall number R14-006.
