What happened

Brake Parts Inc. is recalling certain rear wheel brake shoes sold under multiple brand names including ACDelco, Carquest, Federated, and Raybestos that were manufactured between April 1, 2013 and April 19, 2014. The recalled shoes may experience detachment of the brake lining from the steel shoe during operation, which can reduce braking force and increase stopping distance or cause the wheel to lock up, potentially rendering the vehicle undriveable and increasing the risk of a crash.

Brake Parts Inc. will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected brake shoes free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners of vehicles with recalled brake shoes should contact BPI customer service at 1-815-363-9000.
