Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid vehicles manufactured between April 26, 2012, and September 24, 2013, because of a manufacturing error in the transmission range sensor. This defect allows the vehicle to shift out of Park without the driver pressing the brake pedal, which could cause the vehicle to roll and potentially result in a crash.
Ford will notify owners of affected vehicles, and authorized dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module with new software at no cost to the owner. According to the recall record, customers with questions should contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 13C09.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid vehicles manufactured April 26, 2012, through September 24, 2013. Due to a manufacturing error, the transmission range sensor may not function properly allowing the affected vehicles to be shifted out of the Park position without first applying the brake pedal. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 114, "Theft Protection."
