Blue Bird Body Company is recalling certain commercial buses from model years 2003 through 2007, including Ultra LMB, Ultra LF, and Express models, that are equipped with Sure Power-brand battery equalizers. The equalizers contain an epoxy sealing compound that was found to become electrically conductive when exposed to heat, creating a fire risk.
Blue Bird will notify owners of the recall, and authorized dealers will replace the equalizers at no charge. The recall began on December 17, 2013. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Blue Bird at 1-478-825-2021, and should reference Blue Bird's recall number R13WN.
