North American Bus Industries (NABI) is recalling certain transit buses from model years 2000-2011 that are equipped with Sure Power battery equalizers. The equalizers contain an epoxy sealing compound that was found to conduct electricity after exposure to heat, which can cause the material to melt and burn, creating a fire risk. The recalled models include LFW, CLFW, and BRT buses from 2000-2011, Blue Bird L4RE buses from 2007-2009, and Optima Opus buses from 2000-2009.
NABI will notify bus owners and replace the defective equalizers at no charge. An interim notification letter was mailed to owners on January 27, 2014. Owners who have questions or need to arrange a replacement should contact NABI at 1-256-831-4296 and reference recall number 20136.
