Toyota is recalling certain 2005-2010 Tacoma Access Cab vehicles manufactured between September 14, 2004, and March 29, 2010, and 2011 Tacoma Access Cab vehicles manufactured between July 1, 2010, and September 7, 2011. The issue involves seat belt pre-tensioners that may detach from the seat belt assembly if access doors are repeatedly and forcefully closed, causing screws to loosen over time. If the pre-tensioner detaches, the seat belt will not function properly, increasing the risk of injury in a severe crash.
Toyota will notify owners of affected vehicles, and authorized dealers will inspect the seat belt assemblies at no cost. Depending on the inspection results, dealers will either replace the entire seat belt assembly or install new pre-tensioner screws with thread-locking sealant and a retractor spring cover with stopper ribs to prevent the screws from loosening again. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 to schedule an inspection with an authorized dealer.
