2014 GMC SIERRA; GENERAL MOTORS TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE; 2014 CHEVROLET SILVERADO
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
General Motors is recalling certain 2014 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras equipped with Allison A1000 transmissions that received incorrect 2015 software during service center updates. The defect causes the transmission position indicator to fail to display that first gear (1) has been selected, potentially showing drive (D) instead. This creates a safety hazard because if a driver pulls into traffic believing the vehicle is in drive when it is actually in first gear, the vehicle's speed would be limited, increasing the risk of a crash.
GM will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will upload the correct transmission software at no charge. Owners of affected Chevrolet Silverados should contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, and owners of affected GMC Sierras should contact GMC at 1-800-462-8782. The recall identification number is 13442.
