What happened

Polaris Industries is recalling certain passenger backrests installed on 2010 through 2013 Victory Cross Roads, Cross Country, Cross Country Tour, and Hard Ball motorcycles. The backrests, identified by part numbers 2877938 (chrome) and 2877938-266 (black), can fail while the motorcycle is in motion if a luggage rack has been attached to them, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

Polaris dealers will mail recall notices to all registered owners of affected motorcycles. Owners who have or have had the affected backrest and luggage rack combination installed will receive an interim letter in September 2013 and a follow-up notification in Spring 2014 when parts become available. The backrest and luggage rack will be replaced free of charge. Owners can contact Polaris at 1-888-704-5290 to schedule repairs.
