What happened

Thor Motor Coach is recalling certain 2011 through 2013 Tuscany, Astoria, Ultrasport, Montecito, and Palazzo recreational vehicles manufactured between May 17, 2010, and October 30, 2012, that were built on Freightliner brand XB and XC custom chassis. These vehicles have diode jumpers that may come loose in their connectors, creating an open circuit that affects two functions: the cruise control disengagement when brakes are applied and the illumination of brake lights when brakes are applied. When these circuits fail, the cruise control may not disengage when braking, and the brake lights may not illuminate to signal the driver's intent to stop, both of which increase crash risk.

Daimler Trucks (DTNA) will notify owners on behalf of Thor, and Freightliner dealers will inspect the diode jumpers to ensure they are fully locked in place and make corrections as needed. The recall was expected to begin January 28, 2013. Affected consumers should contact the DTNA Warranty Campaigns Department at (800) 547-0712 (7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday), email DTNA.Warranty.Campaigns@Daimler.com, or the Customer Assistance Center at (800) FTL-HELP after normal business hours.

Hazard

Failure of the cruise control to disengage when the brakes are applied may increase the risk of a vehicle crash. Without the brake lights illuminating when the brakes are applied, the driver's intent is not communicated, increasing the risk of a crash.
