What happened

Autocar, LLC is recalling certain 2012 Autocar ACX refuse trucks manufactured between March 17, 2011, and February 10, 2012. During the manufacturing process, the tag axle on the chassis may be removed, requiring two air lines to be reinstalled. If these air lines are reconnected incorrectly, the tag axle brakes will engage when the axle is lifted but will not function when the axle is lowered, reducing braking ability and increasing crash risk.

The manufacturer, McNEILUS, will notify truck owners and inspect and repair affected vehicles at no charge. The safety recall began on May 2, 2012. Owners of affected vehicles should contact McNEILUS at 507-374-6321.
