BMW is recalling certain 2007-2011 Mini Cooper S, Mini Cooper S Clubman, Mini Cooper S Convertible, Mini Cooper JCW, Mini Cooper JCW Clubman, Cooper JCW Convertible, and 2011 Cooper S Countryman vehicles manufactured between November 14, 2006, and January 18, 2011. The electric auxiliary water pump that cools the turbocharger contains an electronic circuit board that can malfunction and overheat, potentially causing the circuit board to smolder and result in a vehicle fire.
BMW began notifying owners in February 2012. Affected owners should contact BMW at 1-866-275-6464 to arrange a free replacement of the water pump at an authorized BMW dealer.
