BMW of North America is recalling certain 2011 Mini Cooper Clubman and Cooper S Clubman vehicles manufactured between February 8, 2011, and May 11, 2011. These vehicles have a European tachometer that uses brake-system warning symbols that do not comply with U.S. safety standards. Specifically, when an ABS system problem occurs, only the outer circle of the warning symbol illuminates instead of displaying the ABS letters, which may prevent the driver from knowing there is an ABS malfunction and increase the risk of a crash.
According to the recall notice, all affected vehicles have already been repaired at BMW dealerships, and no owner notification letter will be issued. Owners of potentially affected vehicles should contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 to verify whether their vehicle was included in this recall and to confirm its repair status.
