What happened

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company is recalling certain tires sold under multiple brand names, including Cooper Discoverer H/T and LSX, Mastercraft Courser HTR, Del-Nat Delta A/S and National A/S Commando, Pep Boys Definity Dakota H/T, and TBC Sigma Stampede Radial SUV, in specific sizes. The problem stems from contaminated rubber that may have been used in the tread compound, which could cause tread separation and result in loss of vehicle control and increased risk of a crash.

Cooper will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected tires free of charge, including free mounting and balancing where applicable. The recall began on June 15, 2012. Owners should contact Cooper Tire & Rubber Company's Consumer Relations Department at 1-800-854-6288.

COOPER WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE TIRES FREE OF CHARGE. FREE MOUNTING AND BALANCING WILL ALSO BE INCLUDED, AS APPLICABLE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 15, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT COOPER TIRE & RUBBER COMPANY’S CONSUMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT AT 1-800-854-6288.

ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL ARE TIRES BRANDED AS DEL-NAT DELTA A/S SIERRADIAL OR NATIONAL A/S COMMANDO, SIZE 265/70R17; PEP BOYS DEFINITY DAKOTA H/T, SIZE P265/70R17; AND TBC SIGMA STAMPEDE RADIAL SUV, SIZE P265/70R17. CONTAMINATED RUBBER MAY HAVE BEEN USED IN THE TREAD COMPOUND WHICH COULD RESULT IN TREAD SEPARATION.
