Navistar is recalling certain 2010-2012 Paystar, Workstar, Transtar, and Prostar commercial trucks manufactured between June 1, 2009, and May 31, 2011, that are equipped with a Maxxforce 11 or 13 engine and specific alternator feature codes. The problem involves the alternator cable rubbing against the high-pressure power steering hose, which can damage the cable's insulation and cause an electrical short that may result in a vehicle fire, potentially causing property damage, personal injury, or death.
To fix this issue, Navistar will install a bracket to route the wires away from the power steering hose. Owners may contact Navistar at 1-800-448-7825 for more information. The recall notice states that an interim notice will be mailed to owners if parts will not be available until after October 14, 2011. This recall has been superseded by recall campaign 12V-196.
