What happened

Certain Girardin G5 and MBII school buses from model years 2006 through 2010, and Micro Bird G5 and MB II school buses from model years 2010 and 2011, manufactured between January 2006 and April 5, 2011, are affected by this recall. These vehicles lack an alarm system on the 4-way warning lights that alerts the driver when the stop arm fails to deploy, which could cause drivers to mistakenly believe the stop arm is extended when only the red lights are activated.

This safety defect increases the risk of injury to pedestrians because drivers may not realize the stop arm has not deployed. Micro Bird will notify owners and replace the affected warning lights with new lights that include an alarm at no cost. The recall began in June 2011. Affected owners should contact Micro Bird at 1-819-477-2012.

Hazard

THE DRIVER COULD ERRONEOUSLY THINK THAT THE SCHOOL BUS STOP ARM IS DEPLOYED WHILE THE FIRST SET OF 4 RED LIGHTS ARE ACTIVATED. THIS CONDITION INCREASES RISK OF INJURY TO PEDESTRIANS.

What should I do?

MICRO BIRD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED WARNING LIGHTS WITH WARNING LIGHTS THAT HAVE AN ALARM FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN DURING JUNE 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MICRO BIRD AT 1-819-477-2012.
