General Motors is recalling certain 2011 model year Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC vehicles due to a defect in the rear axle cross pin. The rear axle cross pins were not properly heat treated during manufacturing and could fracture and become displaced within the rear axle. If the pin shifts out of position, it could lock the rear axle and cause the driver to lose directional control of the vehicle, potentially resulting in a crash without warning.
To remedy this defect, dealers will install a new rear axle cross pin free of charge. Owners of affected vehicles should contact their respective manufacturers: Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, or GMC at 1-866-996-9463, or visit the Owner Center at www.gmownercenter.com to arrange the repair.
