Carrier Corporation is recalling certain EM-1 evaporator units manufactured between January 1, 2006 and December 2010 that were installed on school and shuttle buses. The units contain a Delphi fuse holder that may loosen over time due to temperature and vibration, potentially causing arcing that could melt the fuse holder and create flame, smoke, and fire.
Carrier will notify bus manufacturers, authorized dealers, and known owners of affected buses. The company will provide a free retrofit kit with repair instructions to address the hazard. Owners who believe they have an affected unit should contact their vehicle manufacturer or Carrier at 1-800-793-4741.

IF SUFFICIENT ARCING OCCURS, THE FUSE HOLDER MAY MELT, AND MAY BE ACCOMPANIED BY FLAME, SMOKE AND POTENTIAL FIRE.
CARRIER WILL NOTIFY BUS MANUFACTURERS, CARRIER AUTHORIZED DEALERS AS WELL AS, TO THE EXTENT KNOWN BY CARRIER, OWNERS OF RECORD WHICH PURCHASED THE AFFECTED UNITS. CARRIER IS WORKING WITH THE BUS MANUFACTURERS AND CARRIER AUTHORIZED DEALERS TO IDENTIFY AND NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE BUSES WHICH MAY HAVE HAD THE AFFECTED EM-1 UNIT SOLD AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT OR AS AN AFTERMARKET INSTALLATION. CARRIER WILL PROVIDE A RETROFIT KIT ALONG WITH REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 31, 2011. CARRIER IS RECALLING CERTAIN CARRIER GENV EM-1 EVAPORATOR UNITS (EM-1) MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 1, 2006 THROUGH DECEMBER 2010, CONTAINING A DELPHI PACK-CON III FUSE HOLDER IN AN ALLIED MOTION MOTOR ASSEMBLY; EM-1 UNIT PART NUMBERS 77-62112-XX AND 77-62512-XX, STARTING WITH SERIAL NUMBER KNT90890232 TO SERIAL NUMBER NNE91230058, SOLD AS AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT AND INSTALLED AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON CERTAIN SCHOOL AND SHUTTLE BUSES. DUE TO TIME, TEMPERATURE, AND/OR VIBRATION, THE FUSE MAY LOOSEN IN THE FUSE HOLDER RESULTING IN HIGH RESISTANCE AND ARCING.
