What happened

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling certain model year 2007 and 2009 VHD trucks, model year 2006 through 2010 VN trucks, and model year 2007 through 2009 VT trucks manufactured between November 7, 2005, and October 30, 2009, that are equipped with an air release fifth wheel. The inversion valve on the frame may be oriented in a way that allows contaminants to enter through the exhaust port, causing the brake valve to corrode and malfunction. This corrosion can adversely affect braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

Owners should contact Volvo Trucks at 1-800-528-6586. Dealers will inspect the inversion valve and replace it as needed at no charge. The safety recall was expected to begin on or before February 18, 2011.
