What happened

Winnebago Industries is recalling certain model year 2006 through 2011 Winnebago View and Itasca Navion motor homes due to a defect in the dinette area seat belt restraints. The seat belt anchorages do not comply with federal safety standards, and during a collision, crash forces can cause the restraint attachment to tear, allowing the anchor to separate from the vehicle body. If this separation occurs during a crash, the seat belt will not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury or death.

Winnebago will add additional seat belt anchorages to affected vehicles at no charge. The recall began on November 12, 2010. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Winnebago at 1-800-537-1885 to have the repair performed.

Hazard

IF THE RESTRAINT SEPARATES FROM THE VEHICLE DURING A CRASH, THE BELT WILL NOT PROPERLY RESTRAIN THE SEAT OCCUPANT, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH TO THE OCCUPANT.

What should I do?

WINNEBAGO WILL ADD ADDITIONAL SEAT BELT ANCHORAGES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 12, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT WINNEBAGO AT 1-800-537-1885.

Details from the source

WINNEBAGO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 THROUGH 2011 WINNEBAGO VIEW AND ITASCA NAVION MOTOR HOMES BECAUSE THE DINETTE AREA SEAT BELT RESTRAINTS ON THOSE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 210, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY ANCHORAGES." IN A COLLISION, THE GENERATED CRASH FORCES CAN CAUSE THE RESTRAINT'S ATTACHMENT TO TEAR AND ALLOW THE ANCHOR TO SEPARATE FROM THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE.
