The Capil'liss hair straightening system is being recalled because it contains excessive formaldehyde, with measured levels up to 4.7%. Formaldehyde exposure can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, and upper respiratory tract, and long-term exposure may cause cancer. The product does not meet requirements under the Cosmetic Products Regulation.
The recalled products come in two forms: a 1000 ml grey plastic bottle with black lettering, and a kit called "le lissage brésilien" sold in a black cardboard box with orange and white lettering containing three 200 ml plastic bottles and instruction leaflet.
