What happened

Imagin's Race Master Need of Speed radio-controlled cars pose multiple safety hazards to children. The remote control's battery compartment can break easily, exposing small button batteries that may cause chemical burns if swallowed. The car's rechargeable battery may overheat and cause burns. Additionally, the car wheels contain prohibited phthalate chemicals including DEHP and DBP, which are banned in all toys, as well as DINP and DIDP, which are prohibited in toys children can place in their mouths. The product also lacks required safety markings and does not meet the Toy Safety Directive or European standard EN 62115.

The affected models are the Race Master Need of Speed in black (Ref. 1681), red (Ref. 2015A), blue (Ref. 2016A), and yellow (Ref. 2017A), marketed for ages 5 and up. The product has been withdrawn from the market and recalled from end users as of February 10, 2014. The source does not specify what remedy consumers should seek.
