The STRAUS AUSTRIA electric planer model ST/PL822-903 has been recalled due to multiple serious safety defects. After thermal testing, the electrical insulation strength decreased significantly, creating a risk of electric shock. The device caught fire during thermal testing, posing a fire hazard. Additionally, the planer lacks adequate protection against accidental operation because the power button can be locked in the on position, and the instruction manual is missing critical safety information required by law. The product does not meet European safety standards for machinery.
Authorities have ordered the product withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers, with fines imposed on the responsible parties. The recall record does not specify what remedy consumers should pursue or what steps they should take regarding their purchase.

These products pose a risk of:- electric shock since after the thermal test the electric strength of the insulation decreases, and the majority of the information related to electric safety is missing from the instructions for use, - fire because during the thermal test it caught fire,- injuries because it is not protected against unintentional operating, the switch can be locked in switched-on position and the instructions for use do not include the majority of the general and several specific instructions related with the safe use. This product does not comply with the Machinery Directive and the relevant European standard EN 60745.

The product has plastic cover and the surface contacting the material to be treated is made of aluminium. The button setting the depth of planing also serves as a grip. The appliance neither has an automatically closing protecting shield nor a lowering device. The machine can be operated by pressing a button, where it can be locked. By pressing the button again the lock is released, and the planer will switch off if the button is released. Main parts of the device: mains plug with inscription "10-16A 250V~ YDP2" + mark of manufacturer+mark of testing institutes; mains cable with inscription " H05VV-F 2X0,75mm2" + VDE ; one-circuit switch with inscription "41-15811 NIKKO S.12A AC 125V 6A AC 250V C300307A + mark of manufacturer.
