Sunscreen milk

  • Brand Herb LineTM

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Sunscreen milk products with batch code 27/05/2007, B.NO.01, MAY 2007, and EAN 8901059122151 have been recalled because they do not provide adequate sun protection. Testing found the products have an SPF (sun protection factor) of only 3.6, significantly below the SPF 25 declared on the label. This means consumers using the product would not receive the protection they expect, leaving them vulnerable to sunburn and the associated health risks of excessive sun exposure, including immunosuppression in children, dry skin, keratosis, and potentially skin cancer.

The product does not meet European cosmetic safety standards under the Cosmetic Directive 76/768/EEC and Commission recommendation 2006/647/EC. Authorities have ordered the importer to remove the product from sales and withdraw it from the market. The affected product is sold in a 120-gram white plastic tube with a transparent screw-top. The source does not specify what action consumers who have purchased the product should take.

Hazard

The product poses a risk of sunburn after sun exposure because it does not provide protection against solar radiation and therefore represents a health risk for the consumer. Consumers relying on the indicated protection factor would be exposing themselves to both an acute risk of sunburn and the long-term consequences of excessive exposure to sunlight, such as immunosuppression (especially in children), dry skin, keratosis and, in the worst case, skin cancer. The measured SPF (sun protection factor indicators) value of 3.6 does not meet the SPF factor declared on the label (25).The product does not comply with the Cosmetic Directive 76/768/EEC and Commission recommendation 2006/647/EC.
