Certain Mazda 3 and Mazda 5 vehicles with MZR-CD engines, as well as Mazda 3MPS models, are subject to a recall due to a defect in the engine mount bolt. When sudden or rapid acceleration is repeatedly performed, the No. 4 engine mount bolt may loosen, fall out, or break, causing the transmission to shift out of position. In extreme cases, this can result in the driveshaft becoming detached from the vehicle.
If the driveshaft detaches, the vehicle will immediately lose all power, come to a stop, and become inoperable. The recall affects Mazda 3 models manufactured in Japan between December 26, 2006 and September 6, 2007, and Mazda 5 models manufactured between April 19, 2005 and September 3, 2007.
