SaKOTA brand wax crayons have been recalled due to excessive levels of lead and chromium. Three product variants are affected: crayons in a box with a butterfly picture (model CFA 0943, 8 pieces, EAN 5997875709433) contain up to 1534 mg/kg lead and 181.7 mg/kg chromium; crayons in boxes with a hippopotamus picture come in two versions—one with 8 pieces (model CFA 0943, EAN 5997875709433) containing up to 1028.1 mg/kg lead and 165.2 mg/kg chromium in yellow crayons and 318.3 mg/kg lead in green crayons, and another with 24 pieces (model CFA 0945, EAN 5997875709457) containing up to 882.4 mg/kg lead and 134.3 mg/kg chromium in yellow crayons, 297.5 mg/kg lead in dark yellow crayons, and 530.4 mg/kg lead and 68.5 mg/kg chromium in turquoise crayons. These levels far exceed the legal limits of 90 mg/kg for lead and 60 mg/kg for chromium established under toy safety standards.
The distributor has voluntarily stopped selling these products, withdrawn them from the market, and initiated a recall from consumers. Consumers are being informed of the recall. The source does not specify what actions consumers should take beyond the distributor's recall efforts.

These crayons poses a risk to children because:1) crayons from the box with a picture of a butterfly and of a yellow colour contain 1534mg/kg Pb and 181,7 mg/kg Cr;2) crayons from the box with a picture of a hippopotamus and of yellow colour contain 1028,1 mg/kg Pb and 165,2 mg/kg Cr and of green colour contain 318,3 mg/kg Pb;3) crayons from the box with a picture of a hippopotamus and of yellow colour contain 882,4 mg/kg Pb and 134,3 mg/kg Cr and of dark yellow colour contain 297,5 mg/kg Pb and of turquoise colour contain 530,4 mg/kg Pb and 68,5 mg/kg Cr.The contents of lead and chrome exceed the limit of 90mg/kg for lead and 60mg/kg for chrome laid down by the standard.This product does not comply with the Toys Directive and the European standard for toys EN 71-1.
