Vision International People Group is recalling expanding turtle and crab toys that pose a choking and injury hazard. After 72 hours in water, these small figures—a turtle weighing 6.5 grams measuring approximately 42 x 35 x 23 millimeters and a crab weighing 7.0 grams measuring approximately 28 x 39 x 15 millimeters—expand by more than 50% in size. The toys are made from hard spongy and expanding polymeric material and come with a manufacturer label warning they expand to over 600% of original size and are not recommended for children under 3 years old.
If a child swallows the toy or any detached part, contact with saliva or gastric juices will cause further expansion, creating a risk of asphyxia or gastrointestinal injuries. The product does not comply with the Toys Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71.
