Remote-controlled toy cars marketed as "High-speed elephant" models are being recalled due to unsafe levels of di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) in their plastic tires. The white remote-control car (item number MA-125869) contains 22% DEHP by mass in the tire plastic, while the yellow remote-control car (item number MA-125870) contains 30% DEHP by mass. Both exceed the maximum permitted level of 0.1% under the REACH Regulation, which prohibits DEHP in all toys and childcare articles.
The white car comes packaged in a cardboard box labeled "Eddy Drifting car, Scale 1:18" and the yellow car is similarly packaged. Both are battery-operated with large plastic tires.
