What happened

Petzl is recalling Scorpio Eashook lanyards due to a defect in the carabiner's automatic gate closing system that can malfunction, creating a risk of serious injury or death. The recalled lanyards are designed for via ferrata and adventure park use, feature aluminum carabiners at the end of two retractable polyethylene arms, and have a weight capacity of up to 264 pounds. They measure approximately 30 inches when un-retracted and 43 inches when extended, with a short arm length of about 14 inches. The lanyards can be identified by "SCORPIO" printed on the gray zippered pouch containing the energy absorber and a serial number ranging from 21A 0000000 000 through 21I 9999999 999 printed on a white tag in that pouch.

According to the recall notice, consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lanyards and contact Petzl for a full refund, including return shipping. Petzl will provide a postage-paid label for returning the recalled lanyard.
