What happened

Zinus is recalling three models of metal bunk beds—the OPLBB (black twin-over-twin with square posts), RPBB (blue twin-over-twin with circular posts), and NTBB (gray twin-over-full with circular posts)—because the welds securing the upper bunk can come apart, causing the upper bunk to collapse and creating fall and injury hazards. All three models have ladders built into both the head and foot of the bed, and the model number can be found on a label on the horizontal bar of the guard rail of the upper bunk.

According to the recall, consumers should immediately stop using the recalled upper bunk and contact Zinus for instructions on receiving either a free repair kit with reinforcement brackets or a full refund. Zinus is contacting all purchasers directly.
