What happened

Bellman & Symfon is recalling Flash Receiver units (model BE1442 MHz) that are part of their Visit smart home system. These white devices, measuring approximately six inches tall and three inches wide, are designed to alert hearing-impaired consumers with bright flashes of light when a doorbell or telephone rings or when a fire alarm sounds. The recall affects specific serial number ranges because the back-up battery in these units can fail to fully charge, which means the receivers may not work as intended and could fail to alert users to an emergency.

Consumers who own an affected Flash Receiver should immediately contact Bellman & Symfon to receive a free repair. The company states that consumers can continue using their Flash Receivers until they receive the repair, but recommends unplugging and re-plugging the units in the meantime to keep them properly powered. The serial number needed to determine if a unit is affected can be found printed on the body of the unit under the battery cover or on the bar code located under the batteries.
