What happened

Schneider Electric is recalling Square D brand General Duty safety switches because the power may remain on even when the handle is moved to the "OFF" position, creating a risk of electrical shock or electrocution. The recalled switches are dark gray metal boxes measuring approximately 10 by 7 by 4 inches with black handles, used in commercial and residential settings. Only switches manufactured between January 1, 2014 and January 18, 2018 with specific catalog numbers (including CD321NRB, D211NRB, D221NRB, D321NRB, DU221RB, DU222RB, DU321RB, and DU322RB, among others) are affected. The date code, found inside the cover in YYWW format between 1401 and 1803, can confirm whether a switch is included in the recall.

According to the recall notice, affected consumers should immediately inspect their installed safety switches by moving the handle to the "OFF" position. If power stays on in the "OFF" position, or if the switch is not yet installed, consumers should contact Schneider Electric for a free replacement switch and free installation support. Instructions for inspection are available at www.schneider-electric.us/gdss-safetyalert.
