What happened

Toshiba has expanded a recall of lithium-ion battery packs used in 41 models of Toshiba Satellite laptops. The batteries can overheat and pose burn and fire hazards. Battery packs with part numbers beginning with G71C are affected, and a complete list of specific part numbers is available on Toshiba's website.

According to the record, affected consumers should visit Toshiba's website and use the battery pack utility tool to determine if their battery is part of the recall, or they can manually check using their laptop and battery pack's model, part, and serial numbers. If the battery is recalled, consumers should power off the laptop, remove the battery, and follow Toshiba's instructions to receive a free replacement.
