Kidde NightHawk combination smoke/carbon monoxide (CO) alarms
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
Kidde is recalling NightHawk talking combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, model number KN-COSM-IB, manufactured between June 1, 2004 and December 31, 2010. These white, round alarms (measuring about 5 to 6 inches in diameter) are hard-wired into home electrical systems and have a replaceable 9V backup battery compartment. The recalled alarms can fail to continue chirping when they reach their 7-year end of life if the batteries are replaced, which may cause consumers to mistakenly believe the alarm is still functioning properly.
The failure to chirp at the end of the alarm's life means consumers may not receive alerts in case of a fire or carbon monoxide incident. According to the recall, affected consumers should immediately stop using the recalled alarms and contact Kidde directly for either a free replacement alarm based on the date of manufacture or a discount on a new alarm. Consumers can identify their alarm by looking for "Kidde" engraved on the front and checking the label on the back for the model number and manufacture date.
