  • Brand United Copper Inc., of Denton, Texas

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

United Copper is recalling 250-foot and 1,000-foot lengths of 12/2 metal clad aluminum armored cabling manufactured between August 2015 and November 2015. The cable has a damaged conductor coating that can cause it to short circuit, creating fire and shock hazards. This cable is typically installed behind walls to connect circuit breaker panels to 120-volt outlets or light switches. The date code, printed in MMMYY format (for example, Aug15), appears on the hang tag attached to the cable at the time of purchase.

According to the recall notice, consumers should immediately contact United Copper to schedule a free inspection to determine whether their cable is included in the recall. The source notes that consumers cannot safely identify or replace the recalled cable on their own since it is typically installed within building walls. United Copper is directly contacting distributors who purchased the recalled cable.
