CPSC, Disney Store Announce Recall of Children's Costumes

Is my product affected?

Princess Ariel (The Little Mermaid) costumes

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

The Disney Store and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have recalled Princess Ariel costumes due to a flammability hazard. The recalled costumes feature a green skirt with two layers of netting topped with a sequined purple metallic bodice and Ariel picture. They were sold in youth sizes 2-4, 4-6X, and 8-10 and have neckline labels reading "The Disney Store." The fabric used in these costumes can ignite readily, creating a serious risk of burn injuries in violation of federal flammability standards. The recall does not include Princess Ariel costumes sold before July 2000, which had a different mermaid fin design with a knee-length sequined skirt.

According to the recall notice, consumers should stop wearing the affected costumes immediately and return them to any Disney Store or to the Disney Store catalog. Upon return, consumers will receive a refund and a $10 gift certificate.
