What happened

Eight manufacturers have recalled pool and in-ground spa drain covers sold between December 2008 and April 2011 because the covers were incorrectly rated for water flow capacity. This incorrect rating creates a possible entrapment hazard to swimmers and bathers. The affected manufacturers are A&A, AquaStar, Color Match, Custom Molded Products, Hayward Pool Products, Pentair Water Pool & Spa, Rising Dragon, and Waterway.

Consumers and pool owners or operators who have one of the recalled drain covers should immediately contact the manufacturer for a replacement or retrofit, depending on their make and model. Retrofit or replacement is not required for covers installed before December 19, 2008, or for covers in pools with multiple drain systems or gravity drainage systems, except in kiddie pools, wading pools, and in-ground spas.
