Avalanche rescue probes
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
Cascade Designs is recalling Mountain Safety Research Striker™ 320 and Striker™ 240 avalanche rescue probes because the lock button can fail to engage properly, preventing the probe from functioning as intended. These probes are made of six or eight 18-inch aluminum shaft sections that lock together to form a single probe measuring either 94 inches or 126 inches. The probes are used by rescue personnel to locate people buried in snow after avalanches. The Striker 320 model is marked on a red and gray probe, the Striker 240 on a yellow and gray probe, and both have "MSR" printed on the shaft.
When the lock button fails to engage, the probe cannot perform its critical function of helping rescuers find buried individuals, creating a suffocation hazard. Consumers who have these probes should immediately stop using them and contact Cascade Designs for instructions on obtaining either a refund or a free replacement probe.
