Bean bag chairs

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Ace Bayou Corporation has reannounced a recall of bean bag chairs because the outer zipper lacks a pull tab, allowing children to open it and access an inner zipper containing foam beads. Children who crawl inside the bean bag chair and into the foam beads face risks of suffocation or choking. Two child deaths have previously been reported. The recalled chairs come in various sizes, shapes, colors, and fabrics—including round or L-shaped designs in vinyl or fabric, filled with polystyrene foam beads, and available in colors such as purple, blue, red, pink, yellow, green, black, navy, lime, turquoise, tangerine, and multi-color. Round chairs measure 30, 32, or 40 inches in diameter, while L-shaped chairs measure 18 inches wide by 30 inches deep by 30 inches high. Ace Bayou Corp is printed on a tag sewn into the cover seam.

According to the record, affected consumers should check the outside zipper on their bean bag chair to see if it has a metal staple to disable the outer zipper. If the metal staple is not present, consumers should immediately take the bean bag chair away from children and contact Ace Bayou for a free repair kit to permanently disable the zipper.

Hazard

The recalled bean bag chairs have two zippers, including an outer zipper that does not have a pull tab and another zipper directly underneath that zipper. Although the outer zipper on the bean bag chair does not have a pull tab, children can open it. Once they have opened the outer zipper, they can open the inner zipper which contains the foam beads and crawl inside. Children can suffocate or choke on these foam beads.

What should I do?

To prevent another death, consumers should check the outside zipper on their bean bag chair to ensure that it has a metal staple to disable the outer zipper. If it does not have a metal staple, take the recalled bean bag chair away from children immediately and contact Ace Bayou for the free repair kit to permanently disable the zipper.
